BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Zidi has launched a comprehensive political and security campaign to prevent Iraq from being drawn into the escalating military tensions between Iran and Israel.
Zidi and his team have held intensive meetings since Sunday evening with leaders of armed groups and influential security figures, according to a government statement. The discussions focused on ensuring Iraq does not participate directly or indirectly in any conflict, even if the United States expands its role alongside Israel.
The government warned that any military activity outside state control would expose the country to serious risks and drag it into a war that does not serve national interests. Officials stated that harsh legal and security measures would be taken against any attempts to use Iraqi territory or airspace for military operations or regional messaging.
The statement emphasized that decisions on war and peace rest solely with the state. The approach has reportedly gained support from most political forces within the Coordination Framework, Iraq's main ruling coalition.
Tensions between Iran and Israel have continued to rise following mutual missile exchanges and air operations.
