Iraqi PM Meets Media Delegation on Eid, Discusses Press Freedom

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falah El-Zeydi received a delegation of media representatives, opinion leaders and political and economic experts on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, where they discussed press freedom and the role of the media in the current period. The meeting focused on the media’s role in informing the public accurately and strengthening social awareness. Zeydi said the government views national media as an active partner in the state-building project. He added that the government would continue supporting media outlets and press institutions. Zeydi also called on media workers to remain committed to professional and ethical principles. The prime minister said constitutional press freedom must be distinguished from attempts at blackmail and defamation.
