BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” Iraq's parliament voted on Thursday to establish a high-level commission to investigate an armed attack in the al-Dawla area south of Baghdad that killed and wounded officers attached to the Interior Ministry. The commission is tasked with examining all aspects of the incident in coordination with security agencies. Under the parliamentary decision, all procedures and decisions related to the case are suspended until the investigation is completed and its findings are released. The commission is required to submit a final report to the legislature outlining its conclusions, identified responsible parties and recommendations. The resolution obliges all executive bodies to cooperate fully with the commission and provide any requested information and documents. It took effect on the date of the vote. In the attack, a brigadier-general-equivalent officer and a policeman were killed and four others were wounded. Security forces cordoned off the area, arrested one suspect and are continuing to search for additional assailants. Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Fallah al-Zeydi ordered security agencies to pursue those responsible for attacks targeting security personnel and to tighten security measures in the area.
