BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” A member of the Iraqi parliament's Security and Defense Commission said the committee has amended roughly 40% of the country's traffic law, rewriting provisions covering penalties, driver's licenses, annual vehicle inspections and window-tinting rules. Yaser Iskander Vetut, a member of the commission, said the committee recently heard testimony from Director of Traffic Lieutenant General Adil Samir al-Hasani and plans to conduct a field visit to the General Traffic Directorate in the near future. Vetut said the committee and the traffic director had reached a preliminary understanding on window tinting, under which vehicle owners would be allowed to install tinting of up to 30% free of charge, with any higher percentage subject to a fee. He did not specify the fee structure or when the new rules would take effect. The lawmaker said the commission will continue reviewing the traffic law in upcoming sessions. No further details on the timeline for the amendments or their final text were immediately available.
