BAGHDAD, Iraq โ The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced Tuesday that a security plan implemented in Najaf for the Ghadir Khum religious observance concluded successfully.
Brigadier General Muaddam Miri, director of the ministry's Media and Relations Department, told reporters in Najaf that the Millennium Visits Supreme Security Committee executed the plan without major incident. Miri said all security forces and the Popular Mobilization Forces made extraordinary efforts throughout the operation.
The security arrangement was carried out in four concentric rings. Officials reported a minor security issue in the old city district, but said no serious incidents occurred during the rest of the observance.
Najaf hosts millions of pilgrims annually to its holy sites, requiring extensive security measures during major religious events.
