CAIRO, Egypt — CAIRO — Iraqi lawmaker Hanan Fetlahi was elected fourth vice president of the Arab Parliament during a plenary session held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo. She became the first woman to hold the position in the parliament, which was established in 2012.
Fetlahi thanked Arab Parliament members for their confidence, saying the role carries a major responsibility and offers an opportunity to represent Iraq while strengthening Arab parliamentary cooperation. She also expressed gratitude to the Iraqi Parliament's speaker and her colleagues for their support.
Fetlahi has served in the Arab Parliament for two terms and is known for her legislative and political experience in Iraq. She was the highest-vote-winning female candidate in the 2014 Iraqi elections and, as leader of the Will Movement, became the first Iraqi woman to head a party represented in the Iraqi Parliament.
