WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — U.S. Vice President JD Vance said President Donald Trump wants negotiations with Iran to continue, with a focus on durable and verifiable commitments from Tehran, including on the dismantlement of its nuclear program. Speaking to reporters, Vance said any deal must be confirmed through sustained inspections. Vance added that Trump has directed officials to use the agreement text as a framework to restore oil to the global economy and to then assess how to proceed. He said he did not understand Iranian statements that no talks were planned in the coming days, and added that uncertainty remained over Iran's next moves. Technical discussions, he noted, are building on previous rounds of talks. Vance outlined two options under consideration: pursuing a longer-term agreement if Iran changes its behavior, or locking in the gains already achieved. He also said Trump is prepared to resume bombing Iran if necessary. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said the country had no plans to hold negotiations with the United States at any level in the coming days. Qatar's Foreign Ministry said no high-level meeting between the U.S. and Iran was scheduled, and that U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were holding consultations with mediators in Doha.
