Iraqi health minister dismisses director of Baghdad's Kadhimiya Medical City after surprise inspection

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraqi Health Minister Abdulhussein al-Musawi made an unannounced visit to Imam al-Kadhimiya Medical City in Baghdad on the evening of Friday, August 28, 2026, to assess the quality of services and patient care at the facility, the Health Ministry said. During the inspection, al-Musawi toured the medical city's corridors, observed operations and listened directly to complaints from patients, according to a ministry statement. He issued immediate instructions to address deficiencies identified during the visit. The minister dismissed the medical city's director and temporarily transferred administrative responsibility to the ministry's administrative undersecretary. The director general of Baghdad Karkh Health will support the undersecretary for one month while a permanent director is appointed.
