Iraqi forces arrest suspect in killing of colonel, security officer in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraqi authorities said they have captured the main suspect in the shooting of an army colonel and a security officer in the southern Baghdad district of Dweila. Interior Ministry intelligence units known as the Falcons Cell took the suspect into custody in Baghdad's Rusafa side following technical and field work, Security Media Cell head Lieutenant General Saad Maan said.
The attack occurred several days earlier during an operation to remove illegal structures around Dweila, Karare and Dijla neighborhood in southern Baghdad. Colonel Hisham Mohammed Tella, head of the police branch at the Karkh side police directorate, and security officer Khalid Abbas Lafta were killed in the shooting. Four other people were wounded.
Maan said the suspect was being questioned and had been transferred to the relevant authorities. He added that the investigation into the attack remains ongoing.
