BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Joint Operations Command said an air operation in the Zapgitan Valley near Kirkuk destroyed six militant hideouts. The command said the operation was carried out by Special Forces under the supervision of its Targeting Cell, based on intelligence provided by the Iraqi National Intelligence Service and the Counter-Terrorism Service.
According to the statement, reconnaissance in the valley identified the six hideouts, which were then struck by army helicopters using precision airstrikes. Special Forces launched search and sweep operations in the targeted area and destroyed any remaining shelters in place.
The Joint Operations Command said security forces are continuing search and clearing operations in the area. No further details were immediately available.
