Iraqi Communist Party condemns attacks on Kurdistan Region, urges federal response

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The Iraqi Communist Party on Saturday condemned ongoing drone and missile attacks on the Kurdistan Region and called on the federal government to identify those responsible and pursue legal action. In a statement, the party expressed deep concern over recent casualties, material damage and continued threats to civilian safety. The party rejected the attacks regardless of who is behind them or their stated justifications, and opposed the use of Iraqi territory as a venue for settling regional and international disputes or as a launch point for military operations targeting other cities. It stressed that the issue of foreign military presence must be handled strictly in line with the will of the Iraqi state and its constitutional institutions, and in the interest of national interests. The statement renewed calls for weapons to be consolidated under state control and for decisions on war and peace to be left exclusively to constitutional bodies. According to the party, between August 1 and 14, 16 drones and three missiles struck the Kurdistan Region, with eight drones and three missiles targeting Erbil and eight drones targeting Sulaymaniyah.
