BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraqi Premier League side Al-Shorta has appointed Tunisian coach Samir Trabelsi on a contract running through the 2026-27 season, the Baghdad-based club announced. Board member Tahsin Al-Yasiri said the deal was based on Trabelsi's broad coaching experience at both club and national-team level.
Al-Yasiri said the team will present a different identity next season, noting that the club has completed several new signings and extended the contracts of a number of players. He added that the moves were aimed at reclaiming the league title lost the previous campaign.
Born in 1968, Trabelsi coached the Tunisia national team from 2011 to 2013 and later managed Qatar's Al-Sailiya. He was reappointed head coach of the Tunisia national team in 2025.
Al-Shorta, based in Baghdad, will target a return to the top of the Iraqi Premier League in the upcoming season.
