BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Federal Integrity Commission said its Kirkuk investigation office detained six officers at the customs crossing between Kirkuk and Erbil under instructions from judicial authorities. The commission said the operation was carried out in coordination with the National Security Service in Kirkuk.
According to the commission, the officers demanded money from citizens whose paperwork was in order, forced them to pay and deliberately delayed their customs transactions. The statement said the suspects accepted bribes in exchange for processing travelers' paperwork.
The detained officers were referred to the competent investigative judge under the relevant provisions of Decision No. 160 of 1983. No further details on their identities or the status of the proceedings were immediately available.
