Iraq wins Arab Veterans Football Pentathlon Championship in Kirkuk

KIRKUK, Iraq — Iraq won the Arab Veterans Football Pentathlon Championship after defeating Jordan 7-1 in the final held Saturday evening at the Kirkuk Youth Hall. The three-day tournament brought veteran national teams from Iraq, Palestine, Jordan and Syria to the city. At the closing ceremony, Iraq received the championship trophy and Jordan the runner-up cup. Plaques of appreciation were also presented to institutions and individuals who contributed to organizing the event. Kirkuk Youth and Sports Director Adel Awad was honored during the ceremony for the city's support of the tournament. Speaking at the event, Awad said Kirkuk was able to host Arab-level sports competitions in a manner befitting the city's history. He added that the championship helped strengthen communication and experience-sharing among veteran athletes from Arab countries. The Kirkuk Directorate of Youth and Sports said it would continue to support sporting events across different disciplines and age categories.
