Iraq to host four-nation friendly tournament in Basra ahead of 2027 Asian Cup

BASRA, Iraq โ The Iraqi Football Federation has contacted Iran, Uzbekistan and Jordan for a four-team friendly tournament planned for Basra in November, federation board member Ahmed al-Musavi said. The federation has also sent formal invitations to other Asian sides as it seeks strong participation in the buildup to the 2027 Asian Cup.
According to current information, Iraq and Iran have confirmed their participation, while talks are continuing with Uzbekistan and another Asian team to complete the four-nation lineup, with Jordan listed among the options.
Musavi said the tournament will serve as an important test for Iraq's national team within its preparation program ahead of the 2027 Asian Cup finals. The four teams expected to compete all took part in this year's World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
