Iraq temperatures return to seasonal norms after heatwave

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Meteorological Directorate said temperatures across the country fell back toward seasonal norms this week following an extended heatwave in which daytime highs had approached 50°C. According to the agency's daily report, minimum temperatures on Wednesday were forecast to range between 23°C and 32°C, while peak readings dropped below the 40°C mark across most areas. Officials noted that the recent decline marked a shift from the scorching summer heat to milder conditions, with overnight cooling particularly noticeable in Baghdad. The report added that temperatures in northern and western regions were expected to track close to seasonal averages in the coming days. The directorate advised residents to avoid direct sun exposure during midday hours and to maintain adequate hydration. No further weather alerts were issued beyond the standard public advisory.
