Iraq signs cooperation agreement with Turkish firm on smart water management

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Ministry of Water Resources signed a cooperation agreement with Turkish software company Kolay Soft to advance smart water management and accelerate digital transformation, the ministry said on Sunday. The accord, signed by Water Resources Minister Muthenna Al-Tamimi, establishes a joint framework for managing the country's water resources, the ministry added. Al-Tamimi said the agreement was important given climate change and rising water consumption, stressing that it imposes no financial burden or commitments on the ministry. Under the deal, Kolay Soft will contribute its expertise to build an integrated system for monitoring and measuring groundwater and surface water and collecting the resulting data. The cooperation also covers remote meter-reading and sensor technologies, training programs for ministry staff and the development of digital transformation systems. A geographic information system will be created to locate water resources and facilities, with the data to be integrated into digital maps.
