BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's General Traffic Directorate said compliance with traffic rules has risen notably among motorcycle drivers since the completion of vehicle registration procedures, according to a statement carried by the Iraqi News Agency.
Brigadier Haydar Shakir Muhammad, head of the directorate's Public Relations and Media Branch, said the agency regulates its dealings with motorcycle, three-wheeled tuk-tuk and car drivers under Traffic Law No. 8 of 2019, relying on modern technology to enforce order and reduce violations. He said deployed traffic patrols at intersections and main roads are supported by radar systems and cameras used to detect violations.
The directorate also cited recent accident statistics showing that a number of motorcycle and tuk-tuk drivers were involved in crashes due to inattention and repeated traffic violations. Officials said registration of motorcycles has been completed and that drivers are showing clearer adherence to the rules.
The statement did not provide specific figures for accidents or compliance rates. No further details on additional enforcement measures or timelines were immediately available.
