Iraq's Washington envoy stresses counterterrorism role in talks with Sheehy

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq’s ambassador in Washington, Nizar Hayrullah, said Iraq is a central hub for counterterrorism in the Middle East and called for continued U.S. support for the Iraqi army and for strengthening the country’s stability. Hayrullah discussed expanding military and security ties between Iraq and the United States during a meeting with Tim Sheehy of the U.S. Senate. The two sides also talked about setting the priorities for military cooperation after the international coalition phase through a shared understanding. Sheehy expressed support for developing relations with Iraq and said he aims to visit the country in the near future.
