Iraq's under-19 women's table tennis team wins gold at West Asia championship

AMMAN, Jordan — Iraq's under-19 women's table tennis team won the gold medal on Saturday at the West Asia Championship in Amman, the Iraqi Table Tennis Federation said. The squad of Nesma Muayid, Barin Shahvan and Esmar Aqeel delivered a dominant performance at the tournament, federation president Herde Rufail said in a written statement. Rufail added that the Iraqi team will face Saudi Arabia in the under-15 final on Saturday evening. She said the federation expects further success at the championship, where Iraq is also competing in singles, doubles and mixed doubles events. In other categories, the under-13 boys' national team advanced to the semifinals, while the under-11 boys' team reached the final. The under-11 girls' team also qualified for the final, and the under-11 boys' team progressed to the semifinals.
