Iraq's Samarra drug company launches first domestic moxifloxacin production

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Samarra State Company for Drugs and Medical Supplies, affiliated with Iraq's Ministry of Industry and Minerals, has begun producing moxifloxacin, the first domestically manufactured formulation of the antibiotic in the country, the company said on Monday. The company announced on August 24 that the new antibiotic represents the first formula of its kind produced locally. Moxifloxacin is used in the treatment of bacterial infections. According to the statement, the production is part of broader efforts to expand Iraq's domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity. The Samarra facility operates under the state-owned company, the company said. The statement did not provide details on the volume of the initial production batch or its distribution timeline.
