BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani has ordered an investigation into a drone attack that targeted the private office of Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and an intelligence headquarters in central Erbil. The strike, carried out overnight by an unmanned aerial vehicle, caused damage to both sites, though no casualties were immediately reported. The Iraqi government announced the probe through its media office, stating that coordination between federal authorities and Kurdistan Regional Government institutions will be central to the inquiry. It identified the reactivation of security coordination mechanisms, faster intelligence sharing and tighter border security as priorities during the investigation. The attack comes during ongoing negotiations between Baghdad and Washington and follows a wave of strikes targeting sensitive locations, including the U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad. Erbil hosts a base used by the U.S.-led coalition against ISIS. According to the statement, the investigation will focus on identifying the group that claimed responsibility, the actors behind it and any possible connections. Baghdad intends to share the findings with international partners to mount a joint response against those responsible.
