BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zeydi met with Iraqi Football Federation President Younes Mahmoud and federation officials in Baghdad on Wednesday to discuss preparations for Iraq's national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup finals. The talks covered the technical and administrative requirements of the team's qualification campaign.
The government said it would provide all necessary support to ensure the national team competes under the best possible conditions. Al-Zeydi described Iraq's participation in the World Cup finals as a national achievement reflecting the aspirations of the Iraqi people, and said state institutions must work together to deliver a performance worthy of the country.
Mahmoud briefed the prime minister on the national team's preparation programs, plans to develop young talent and broader efforts to advance Iraqi football, and expressed appreciation for the government's support in the youth and sports sector. The meeting ended with both sides agreeing to maintain coordination as the team continues its World Cup campaign.
