BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's General Directorate of Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring has issued a forecast warning that a heatwave will affect the country from Monday through Thursday, with daytime temperatures expected to climb above 50ยฐC in many cities. The agency said conditions would remain sunny and hot, with "very high" daytime readings, while nighttime and early morning hours would bring a relative easing.
According to the directorate's report, winds will blow from the northwest at light to moderate speeds, strengthening to 40โ50 kilometers per hour in central and southern regions during midday hours. The agency warned that these winds could trigger dust storms, particularly across desert areas and on roads outside urban centers, with the risk of dust rising further on Wednesday.
The meteorological office published a four-day temperature outlook showing that several cities are expected to record readings of 50ยฐC to 51ยฐC. The forecast covers the period from Monday to Thursday, with the agency advising residents to prepare for sustained extreme heat.
