BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” The Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights said on Wednesday that shortages of vehicle fuel have deepened again across the country, with long lines forming outside stations in Baghdad and several other cities. The commission said rising temperatures have added to congestion around fuel stations and worsened traffic disruptions. It called on government bodies and relevant ministries to strengthen domestic production, develop refineries and close gaps in fuel supply. It also urged tighter monitoring of fuel distribution points, depots and private stations. The commission asked media outlets and social media users to avoid rumors and exaggerated posts. An economic observatory said the gasoline shortage in Baghdad and some other cities would continue until import shipments arrive. It said long queues have been forming outside stations for about 10 days in the city and some surrounding areas.
