Iraq releases 640 prisoners in June, justice ministry says

BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Ministry of Justice released 640 prisoners in June 2026 through the Iraqi Reform Directorate, according to a ministry statement. Of those released, 419 were freed under various judicial decisions and 221 under a general amnesty law, the ministry said, adding that the releases took place in Baghdad and other cities.
The ministry said the releases were carried out after all legal requirements were met and would continue in line with existing legal frameworks. The Reform Directorate was credited with following judicial and administrative procedures meticulously and applying the release orders in full.
The statement reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to carrying out its professional and humanitarian responsibilities with high precision, and said the process was documented transparently.
The ministry added that similar judicial and administrative reviews would continue in the coming period, with no deviation from established procedures.
