BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Strategic affairs expert Jasim al-Gharabi said on July 4, 2026 that fully ending the regional war serves Iraq's strategic interests, citing its positive impact on security, stability and the economy.
Speaking in a statement, al-Gharabi said Iraq is directly affected by military escalation in the region because of its geographic position and intertwined regional relationships. He argued that an end to hostilities would allow the government to pursue development programs, improve services and accelerate economic growth.
The expert added that sustaining regional peace protects national interests, supports border security and reduces risks. He said it would also create conditions to expand economic and trade cooperation with neighboring countries and to advance trade, energy and investment flows.
Al-Gharabi called for strengthening diplomatic channels and regional dialogue in the coming period, saying Iraq could play a constructive role within its foreign policy principles by supporting de-escalation efforts and bringing parties closer together. He concluded that a permanent end to the war would benefit not only a single country but all regional populations, with reinforced security and stability underpinning sustainable development.
