Iraq records 6,628 separation cases in April, rights center says

Iraq recorded 6,628 separation cases in federal courts in April 2026, the Strategic Human Rights Center said, equivalent to about nine divorces an hour. Hazim al-Ridini, deputy head of the center, said poverty, unemployment, misuse of social media, drugs and domestic violence were among the main factors behind the increase. The center called on the government to adopt a comprehensive five-year strategy and implement awareness programs in Baghdad and Basra. Baghdad recorded 2,665 cases, while Basra ranked second with 611 cases.
