BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq ranked 76th among the world's poorest countries in 2026, according to data from Global Finance magazine, with a purchasing-power-parity-adjusted gross domestic product per capita of $15,359.6 in international dollars. The country held the same position in the 2025 ranking.
The 77th spot went to South Africa with a per-capita income of $16,326.29, followed by Fiji in 78th place at $16,430.66, the data showed. The purchasing power parity index is used to compare economic strength and living standards across countries by accounting for price levels and exchange rate differences, with values expressed in international dollars.
Burundi topped the list of the world's poorest countries, followed by the Central African Republic, South Sudan, Yemen, Mozambique, Malawi, Somalia, Liberia, Madagascar and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
