BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Meteorological and Seismological Organization has begun publishing a weekly climate map that compares current temperatures with historical averages, the agency said in a statement. The map, prepared by its Center for Climate and Scientific Research, juxtaposes weekly maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at observation stations across the country against climate data covering 30- and 60-year periods.
According to the organization, the comparison is designed to identify temperature deviations and determine whether current readings indicate anomalies relative to historical norms. Officials said the data is intended to support climate research and to provide reliable information for specialists in agriculture, water resource management and urban planning.
The agency added that the maps are part of broader efforts to monitor environmental change in Iraq and to strengthen planning for climate-related challenges. No further details on the rollout schedule or the number of observation stations included in the dataset were immediately available.
