BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Prime Minister Ali Fallah al-Zidi has launched a broad price inspection campaign targeting local markets in the capital, the Prime Minister's Press Office said in a written statement. Al-Zidi ordered monitoring and regulation of price movements for basic foodstuffs and essential consumer goods, with the inspections covering commercial activity and goods supply at the markets.
The campaign comes amid recent disruptions to supply chains and rising transportation and shipping costs, which officials said could push up prices for some essential products. Authorities will carry out the inspections to protect consumer rights and maintain market stability, according to the statement.
The Prime Minister's office said price fluctuations will be closely tracked and that necessary measures will be taken. No further details on the scope or duration of the campaign were immediately available.
