Iraq: one officer and one police officer wounded in Diwaniya suspect clash

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Interior Ministry said an army officer and a police officer were wounded during an armed clash with a wanted suspect in Diwaniya province, and that the suspect was taken into custody. A ministry spokesperson said security forces identified the suspect, who was being sought under an arrest warrant on drug-related charges. During the operation, the suspect opened fire on security forces, leading to the wounding of one officer and one police officer, according to the spokesperson. The ministry said both injured personnel were receiving treatment and that their condition had stabilized. The suspect was detained during the raid, and drugs were seized from him, the ministry said. It added that an investigation into the incident is ongoing. The spokesperson did not release the type or quantity of the narcotics recovered.
