BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Security forces in Baghdad rescued a woman born in 2003 and her infant born in 2023 after the two jumped into the Tigris River from the Republic Bridge in an apparent suicide attempt. The mother told authorities she acted because of marital problems, and both were taken to a security center for standard procedure.
In Najaf, an 18-year-old man died by setting himself on fire at home. Security sources said the young man took his own life over an unrequited love for a married woman and his inability to marry her.
Two teenagers drowned in separate incidents in Sulaymaniyah and Dhi Qar. In Sulaymaniyah's Qortu subdistrict, the body of Heymen Ismail Kake Ali, born in 2010, was pulled from the water in the Balaju area and transferred to Kalar Emergency Hospital. In Dhi Qar's northern Al-Nasr district, a young man who had been fishing with his father slipped and fell into the Gharraf River, where he died.
Police in Sulaymaniyah have opened an investigation into that drowning, while security forces in Dhi Qar recovered the body from the river. No further details were immediately available.
