Iraq international midfielder Zidane Iqbal has transferred from Dutch club Utrecht to Blackburn Rovers, who play in England's Championship, the clubs confirmed. Iqbal is expected to travel to England on Monday to complete the transfer formalities and join his new side before the close of the summer window.
Iqbal, regarded as one of the standout Iraqi talents of recent years, previously represented Iraq at a World Cup finals. He will now look to continue his career in English football after his spell in the Netherlands.
Blackburn Rovers, one of the founding members of the Football League alongside Aston Villa and Everton in 1888, play their home matches at Ewood Park. The club won the Premier League title in 1995 under manager Kenny Dalglish, with Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton among its squad, and has also lifted the FA Cup on multiple occasions and competed in European competitions including the UEFA Cup and Europa League.
