Iraq will become part of the $700 million WorldLink international cable project, a privately financed system designed to connect the Gulf region with Europe through Iraq and strengthen the country’s role in regional data transit. The project is expected to draw digital infrastructure investment and position Iraq as a regional hub over its five-year implementation period. The initiative includes a United Arab Emirates-Iraq alliance made up of Tech 964 Holding, DIL Technology and Breeze Investments. The cable will run from Abu Dhabi to Turkey, passing through Iraq and branching to Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. WorldLink is designed with a capacity of 900 terabits per second and aims to keep latency below 100 milliseconds. Its scale and route place Iraq at the center of a major cross-regional communications corridor. Officials involved in the project expect the five-year rollout to enhance Iraq’s digital infrastructure and attract further investment in the sector. The project’s private financing model also underscores the growing role of regional private-sector partnerships in telecommunications development.
