ANBAR, Iraq โ Iraq's medical staff have confirmed that forward Aymen Hussein is carrying a groin injury sustained during his team's match against France. A source within the national team's medical setup said initial assessments indicated he will most likely be unavailable for the June 26 group-stage fixture against Senegal.
Hussein was forced off in the 26th minute of the France match, with Ali Al-Hamadi coming on as his replacement. The first half of that game had been suspended for an unspecified period because of deteriorating weather conditions.
The injury adds to Iraq's concerns heading into the Senegal match. Hussein scored Iraq's only goal at the World Cup, against Norway, and had carried much of the side's attacking burden through the opening two group games.
