Iraq Football Federation sets squad rules for 2026-2027 season

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The Iraq Football Federation has issued its player registration regulations for the 2026-2027 season, setting new limits on foreign players and registration fees. Clubs will be allowed to sign a maximum of seven foreign players per squad, excluding goalkeepers, with at least four of those required to come from countries ranked below 90th in the FIFA world rankings. In Iraqi Premier League matches, teams will be permitted to field only five foreign players on the pitch at any one time. Registration fees have been set at 250,000 Iraqi dinars for local players and 500,000 dinars for foreign players. The federation said the league, which will feature 20 clubs, is scheduled to run from August 2026 through May 2027. It described the announced regulations as part of efforts to strengthen administrative order and organizational standards in the upcoming season.
