KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait โ€” Iraq ranked 109th out of 189 countries in the 2026 Global Finance ranking of the world's richest countries, climbing five places from 114th the previous year, according to the magazine's list. The country's gross domestic product per capita stood at $15,359.60 in international dollars at purchasing power parity, the measure used to compile the ranking. The ranking is based on GDP per capita adjusted for purchasing power parity, a metric that accounts for differences in inflation and the cost of goods and services between countries to compare living standards and buying power. Singapore topped the global list at $156,755.35, followed by Luxembourg at $152,966.48 and Ireland at $152,632.06, with Macau, Qatar, Norway and Switzerland rounding out the top seven. In the Arab world, Qatar led the ranking, followed by the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Egypt, Algeria and Libya. Iraq placed tenth in the region. The report noted that a higher GDP per capita at purchasing power parity does not by itself indicate uniform prosperity across the population, as income inequality and tax-haven economies limit the indicator's usefulness.
