BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” Iraqi authorities have revoked the appointment of a new director for Nasiriyah Light Prison in Dhi Qar province, citing his social media posts as the reason for the reversal. The cancellation was issued by the same official who signed the original assignment order, which had directed the removal of the previous director and his replacement. A document accompanying the cancellation referred to confidential guidance from the Prime Minister's Office. According to the document, the newly appointed official's social media activity was deemed incompatible with the role. The posts included accusations that the Prime Minister was "implementing American orders" following the arrest of an intelligence official affiliated with the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), also known as the Hashd al-Shaabi. They also included statements asserting that armed groups would not disband and that the PMF would not be dissolved, along with remarks highlighting ties with Iran. As a result of the cancellation, the previous prison administration remains in place. No further details were immediately available on who authorized the original appointment or the broader review process.
