Iraq body urges tribes to shun those involved in corruption

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The Iraqi Federal Integrity Commission on Thursday called on tribes in Baghdad to take a clear social stance against people involved in corruption. In a statement, the commission said tribes should exclude corrupt individuals and reject any attempts to protect or conceal them. The commission also said cooperation between state institutions and segments of society should be strengthened. It said such coordination was needed to support efforts to combat corruption. An official from the Tribes Affairs Directorate at the Interior Ministry said the directorate serves as a bridge between society and the state and backs anti-corruption efforts. The meeting also discussed a draft integrity code prepared for tribal representatives.
