BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Interior Ministry said two people have been arrested for attacking a traffic police officer in the Karada district on Baghdad's Karkh side. The ministry said the incident was captured on video in a narrow alley and circulated on social media, prompting Deputy Interior Minister Hussein al-Awadi to personally oversee the investigation.
Al-Awadi ordered a security team to track down the suspects shortly after the footage spread online, according to the ministry. The suspects were detained within hours and referred for legal proceedings.
The deputy minister said the ministry would not tolerate any assault on police officers and that anyone who targets ministry personnel would be held accountable under the law. No further details about the suspects or the injured officer were immediately available.
