Iraq arrests 184 in month-long operations against terrorism, drugs, blackmail

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's National Security Apparatus said 184 people were detained over the past month in nationwide operations targeting terrorism, drug trafficking and blackmail networks. The agency said the arrests were carried out simultaneously in multiple cities through coordinated actions by intelligence units. Suspects included individuals assessed to have links to terrorist organizations, those identified as drug traffickers, and members of blackmail rings, according to the statement. Many of those detained in the blackmail investigations have been referred to judicial proceedings, the agency added. Officials said the inquiries will continue with technical intelligence support from security units. The National Security Apparatus said operations against groups threatening public security would be sustained.
