An explosive device left at the entrance of an apartment building in Monaco detonated on Monday evening, seriously injuring three people, including a child. The blast occurred at around 9 p.m. local time on a street near the border with France, according to local authorities. One of the wounded was Vadim Yermolaev, a businessman of Ukrainian origin who later obtained Cypriot citizenship, an unnamed source told AFP. Yermolaev was placed on Ukraine's sanctions list in 2023 over activities in Crimea, the source said. Monaco's prosecutor's office announced it has opened an investigation into attempted murder but has not classified the incident as a terrorist act. Prince Albert II described the attack as a "despicable crime" and a shock to the whole community. Authorities said security camera footage identified a suspect fleeing toward the French town of Beausoleil just across the border. No further details were immediately available.
