Iraq approves Apple as licensed digital platform, regulator says

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Media and Communications Commission has formally approved Apple to operate in the country as a licensed digital platform, the body's executive head, Beligh Abu Kill, announced on Thursday. Abu Kill said Apple completed all requirements and procedures set out in the framework regulation governing digital platforms and services. The approval covers the App Store, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple Arcade and Apple Ads. The commission said the services can be offered in line with applicable Iraqi laws and regulations once the technical and legal requirements it set are met. It added that the approval is part of a broader strategy to bring international companies into compliance with Iraqi legislation, protect user rights and support the digital economy. The regulator said it is continuing to work with other global firms to complete licensing and approval processes. Abu Kill described the move as support for Iraq's digital transformation and its evolving regulatory framework.
