Iraq anticorruption body arrests two electricity officials in Diwaniya

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Federal Commission of Integrity said two employees of the Electricity Ministry in Diwaniya province were detained on bribery charges. The commission's investigation and arrest unit, operating under its Diwaniya office, carried out the operation at the local electricity distribution directorate, it said in a statement on Tuesday. According to the commission, the director of the directorate and his deputy were taken into custody on allegations they received financial benefits in exchange for granting administrative positions. The arrests were carried out under an arrest warrant issued by judicial authorities and within the scope of Article 307 of the Iraqi Penal Code. The two suspects were formally documented, and the case file has been referred to the competent investigative judge, the commission said. It added that the detainees' legal status will be determined by the relevant court once proceedings are completed. No further details were immediately available.
