Iraq activates seven new international transport corridors

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Ministry of Transport has launched seven new international transport corridors across Iraqi territory, the ministry announced. Officials said more than 1,000 trips for energy and freight transport were completed along the routes during 2026. The ministry described the activation of the corridors as a concrete step toward Iraq's stated goal of becoming a regional transit hub. It added that coordination with relevant institutions is ongoing to strengthen the logistics infrastructure along the routes. According to the ministry, the new corridors are intended to accelerate import and export procedures, reduce cargo congestion at ports and lower transportation costs. Security measures along the routes have also been increased, officials said, with transport operations expected to continue without interruption.
