TEHRAN, Iran โ Iran's army spokesperson Mohammad Akraminia said the Revolutionary Guards destroyed most of the US military facilities in Erbil, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, in recent operations.
Akraminia said the strikes targeted US forces and rendered a large portion of the facilities unusable. He added that the coordinates were pre-determined and limited to US positions in the Kurdistan Region.
The Iranian spokesperson described the operation as a message against the US military presence in the area. Erbil has hosted several bases used by US forces and the international coalition operating in the Kurdistan Region.
The statement comes amid renewed tensions between Iran and the United States over military deployments and a range of disputes in the Middle East, with regional governments monitoring the security implications.
