Iran says no US talks, no foreign delegations to be hosted

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran is not currently holding any negotiations with the United States and will neither host foreign delegations nor send envoys for talks. Speaking at a weekly press briefing, Baghaei said Iran and Oman have held recent discussions on navigational security in the Strait of Hormuz, but he added that a separate agreement with Washington would be needed before the waterway could reopen. The spokesperson said the situation in the Strait of Hormuz will not change as long as the United States continues what he described as aggression and a maritime blockade, and he noted that all members of Iran's negotiating team are currently inside the country. He said China is working to defuse tensions, but added that it would not be accurate to describe new intermediaries as playing a role in the crisis. Repeating that Iran will not currently host any delegation or be a guest of any framework, Baghaei held the United States responsible for events in the region and beyond. US President Donald Trump said late Monday that fresh talks with Iran would begin and that a deal had been reached on the Strait of Hormuz.
