Baghdad police arrest domestic worker and gang over house theft

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Baghdad's Karkh Police Command said Wednesday that a domestic worker and a gang of the same nationality were arrested on suspicion of stealing a large amount of cash and gold jewelry from a citizen's home. According to the command, officers from the Kadhmiyah police station and the Kadhmiyah Anti-Crime Unit formed a working team after the complaint was filed. The team gathered information, conducted an investigation and reviewed security camera footage, the command said. Their work led to the identification of the suspects and the tracking of their movements, after which judicial authorization was obtained. In an operation carried out with court approval, the domestic worker and all members of the gang were taken into custody within a short period, the police said. The stolen cash and gold jewelry were recovered and returned to the owner. No further details were immediately available.
