WASHINGTON, United States — TEHRAN — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tuesday that Iran will remain committed to its ceasefire agreement with the United States, provided Washington resumes its obligations under the deal. Speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek, Pezeshkian said Tehran would respond in kind if the US returns to the terms of the temporary agreement signed in June. According to Iran's ISNA news agency, Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing that Tehran continues to seek a diplomatic resolution to its dispute with Washington. He said war serves no one's interests and that the issues can be addressed through dialogue and cooperation. The Iranian president's comments come a day after US President Donald Trump described Iran as a "failed state" and said attacks against Tehran would continue forcefully. Trump's statement followed US Central Command airstrikes before dawn on two targets on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, which the military said were aimed at preventing Iran from mining the waterway. No further details on the status of the ceasefire or next diplomatic steps were immediately available.
